Location
Lake Wanaka, New ZealandTime
This is one of my favorite images from my trip to New Zealand October 2013, i remember waking up early morning about 4:30 AM and drove to the lake to make sure that we have the best possible composition, since this is probably one of most photographed tree in New ZealandLighting
It was really hard for me to find a composition that hasn't been done before, decided to go our for I sunrise instead of sunset and pray that we get some awesome colors, thankfully I was not disappointed and it was worth standing up in the cold.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark III | 13 secs | f/18 | 29 mm | ISO 50 | Lee 0.9 and 0.6 Graduated filter | Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5Inspiration
the tree itself, I've always been fascinated by the fact that it's the only tree in the lake and it's covered completely in water. It's a sing for strength and Power.Editing
I really have not made that much post processing to this image mainly because I used Lee filters to balance the exposure between the foreground and the background. I did however crop the image and increased the saturation a bit more to make this beautiful sunrise pop.In my camera bag
I use the Canon 5D Mark III alongside with my favorite Canon lens EF 17-40mm f/4L USM wide-angle lens. I also use Lee filters to help me get the Long exposure effect that I have always loved and used for many of my shots, also to help me balance between the foreground and the background and be more in control.Feedback
One of the main things that you have to take in consideration to get a shot of the tree is to arrive at the lake as early as you can, it is a very very busy place and many photographers that visit New Zealand come down to photograph it, you can also shoot the Milky Way alongside with the tree. Also it will be great if you have a remote control, a wide-angle lens and some lee filters or the any grad filters of your choice. it will also help to have a sturdy tripod to eliminate any movements especially if you're shooting long exposures, this will help you get the best and the sharpest results possible
