Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard in Rolleston, Christchurch. The daisy was so tiny only half a centimeter in diameter, and only of the few that weren't damaged. I love how you can seen little bee trails of pollen across the petals :-)

Time

I took this photo mid-morning, on a slightly overcast spring day. Which provided beautiful light.

Lighting

The day was slightly overcast which was just fantastic as it didn't create any harsh shadows or light.

Equipment

I took this photo using a tripod and a shutter release with my trusty Canon 550d, and canon 100mm macro lens.

Inspiration

I love taking photos of everyday things, daisies, dewdrops, spiderwebs etc when I saw this wee perfect daisy I knew I had to photograph it.

Editing

I did use post-processing, just to darken and lighten areas of the photo to make the daisy pop out.

In my camera bag

I enjoy all types of photography, from landscape, portraiture, astro and macro so I tend to have carry all sorts around with me. I always have my canon 5d mark iii, canon 550d, tripod, remote shutter release, canon 24-105 1:4L IS USM, canon 100mm macro, canon 70-300mm, canon 50mm prime, Samyang 2.8 14mm, spare batteries for both cameras, variable ND filters, Circular PL filters..... it's a heavy bag!

Feedback

My advice for others trying to capture something similar is to take your time, don't rush, if you have a tripod and a shutter release I'd use them both. Check the time of the day, making sure the light isn't to harsh. Try to find something about the flower ie a little bug or wonderfully placed dewdrops or bee trails like mine. Take lots of photos and enjoy, always keeping a look out for the little things, they make gorgeous pics and their beauty is often overlooked.
