My nephew loves Spider-Man. He wanted to do a photo shoot so he could have pictures taken just like the real Spider-Man.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photograph was taken in Vermilion, IL next to an abandoned brick building that was falling apart.

Time

I took this photograph about an hour before sunset.

Lighting

I only used natural available light for this image.

Equipment

It was shot using a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 135mm 2.0L.

Inspiration

This photograph was my sister in laws idea. My nephew absolutely loves Spider-Man and wanted to dress up and have his picture taken just like the real Spider-Man.

Editing

I used Lightroom and Photoshop to edit the image in post. I shoot in raw so I have more control of the image in post.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon 5D Mark III, 50mm 1.4, 135mm 2.0L, and now the only lens on my camera the 85mm 1.2L

Feedback

My biggest advise I could give when working with children is to be patient and make it fun for them. As long as they are having a great time and your always ready you'll get the best photographs ever of them. Ive worked with children of all ages. Some were easy and some I had to be very patient with because they were shy around strangers or they were just in a bad mood. Patience is the key and constantly try to have a good time making them laugh. My wife always comes with me on photo shoots and she helps to distract the parents if I have a parent who is starting to stress out because their child is not cooperating. When she distracts the parent I'm able to take the child's mind off the parent being stressed and they tend to calm down. You never know what will work when working with children so you just have to be patient and try everything until you figure out what works best. Also - you don't always have to have a great big smile to have a fantastic portrait. A great photograph can be without a big smiles.
