Great shot! The focus is spot on, which is great for such a fast moving subject.

I can't help wondering if he hit a tree next?

Behind The Lens

Location
This was taken from an animal sanctuary on the outskirts of Reno Nevada called Animal Ark.
Time
This was shot in late afternoon but the sun was still fairly high.
Lighting
Absolutely unshaded area/field on a late afternoon.
Equipment
A D700, 300 2.8, Gitzo Monopod, RRs Ballhead
Inspiration
a few times every year, the Animal Ark, a non profit organization & fully volunteer driven raises money by doing Cheetah Runs where the public is allowed to view and photographers are allowed to photograph these beautiful animals as they sprint freely around an open field. The place is inspiring in itself as they rescue wild animals and educate the public at the same time.
Editing
Brought the image in ACR and with minor contrast & color corrections.
In my camera bag
My main squeeze is a D800, backed up by D700. Lenses Nikon 24-70 2.8, 85 1.4, 70-200 2.8, 17-35 2.8
Feedback
Practice, practice, practice ! you'll be catching a lot of tail at first because these beauties are extremely fast and you will be in awe. Be patient enjoy the moment and stay with them.
