The question is always asked by the curious travelers who have crossed the Plains at Interstate speeds, “How can you live here without the mountains, the ocean, the woods?” But what they are really speaking to is their desire to “get it” right away. The sublime of this place that we call the prairie is one of patience and looking. There is no quick fix…If one is to understand the beauty of this place, the old answers just won’t do.

Thank you! It was fun pulling up onto this property and walking around the entire house to catch different prospectives. This shot holds my interest because of the green the two trees offer and the old windmill which lays along side of the house on the ground. I appreciate the peer recognition "Superb Composition" very much (^_^)

We loved it also! We have fond memories of lunch in the front yard. We only had one car go past on the highway and that was miles away from this house, needless to say it gives a new meaning to "Open Spaces"

Wow, amazing shot! The angle of the clouds gives movement to the composition, a kind of "rush" which for me is an emotional one...which I love! :)

Beautiful classic image here. Big sky, grass in foreground, house and tree on the right leading you out to the horizon. Very well done Ernesto.

Thanks for the comment "house and tree on right leading you out the horizon" as that is exactly what I felt when choosing this photo over all the others. Wonderful to have you award this "Absolute Materpiece" - know I am grateful.

You are so spot on with the "lovely scene" comment. Everytime I visit this photo and remember being at this place it makes me think the photo is almost better than being there.

Every time I come across a house like this in west Texas I have to stop and take a shot. I always seem to find a barn owl hanging out inside the rafters. Really great shot capturing the beauty of these old buildings. Thanks for sharing it.

This is an awesome picture. I can just see in my mind the family that once lived there.

I'm sure it was full of running feet upstairs and the front door sqeeking open with all the people coming and going. Thanks for the "Top Choice" peer recognition.

I can hear children running upstairs and love how the front doors always seem to be in use with family members doing chores etc.......Thanks for the "Top Choice" peer recognition.

I like the tree back there drawing you toward the house and then itself. It has that old fashioned beauty about it ...The smallholder rocking the chair after a hard day and smoking his pipe is the picture I have in my mind Voted .k
