This photo was taken in Pensacola, Florida during a family vacation around 5 years ago. In case you haven't noticed, Florida is a great place for broken boat docks! Every time I come upon one, I have to resist the urge to take a picture of it because each one can turn out so differently. They may be broken, but they make beautiful pictures.Time
This was taken in the evening, when the sun was not quite gone for the day, but decided to leave behind some purple and pink hues.Lighting
When it comes to photos, I am self taught. I haven't had any sort of training and at the time of this photo, you could have asked me a question about the lighting and I wouldn't have known what you were talking about! All I knew was that it was a sunset with some gorgeous colors and I wanted to capture it.Equipment
Honestly? I only used a Samsung HD 16.1MP digital camera! I didn't have a lot of money growing up to spend on extravagant things, but I broke down in high school and bought a $100 digital camera and took some of my best pictures with it. I've upgraded since then to a big girl camera, but don't let anyone tell you that you need an expensive camera to take good pictures. Sure it's nice, but it's all about the eye.Inspiration
Any time I'm in Florida, a broken boat dock is just calling my name. It looks so lonely and ugly compared to its surrounding beauty, but when you step back and look at it against the water and throw in a sunset, it can be breathtaking.Editing
Again, being self taught I have not always done a lot of post-processing, but I messed around with the contrast and hue/saturation a little bit.In my camera bag
Right now, I have a few different lenses, which includes a wide angle and a macro lens, and of course, an extra battery and charger.Feedback
A boat dock is something even a budding photographer can take a photo of and make it look great! You don't need a fancy camera to do it-- wait until early morning or evening and the sky will do most of the work for you.
