This is actually an attempted shot to make something appear a bit larger than life. What you're looking at, is actually a very small man-made lump of sand dumped together and topped up with some grass blades from the nearby area. If you look closely, you might be able to catch sa glimpse of the ocean. Created and captured on Douglas, Isle of Man

Location
This photo was taken on a beach in Douglas on the Isle of Man. I wanted to try and model something offbeat.Time
This was sort of an accidental shot. I reckon it was midday - and we were lazing on the beach, wondering how long before the restaurant by the beach would serve lunch. So yes, in a way, hunger led to this shotLighting
It was cloudy, overcast and slightly windy. No flash, all natural light.Equipment
It was a Canon Rebel, a 450D I think using the standard 18-75mm lens. No tripod no flash - nothing out of the ordinary. AlthoughInspiration
As I lay there, I could see sand all around and a few tufts of grass. And beyond it, I could hear the roar of the sea. Ever since I've taken to photography, I've been wanting to try something offbeat. So as I continue to stare at the sand, grass and sea all in one frame, I was suddenly taken back to my childhood. I great up in the UAE, and right across our villa was a desert. Despite it being really hot during the summer, I used to love lying down on the sand and staring at the almost unending expansion of the brown sand. And we had lots of dunes - sand dunes. So I thought it would be interesting to recreate something from my childhood on a beach. This is actually an attempted shot to make something appear a bit larger than life. What you're looking at, is actually a very small man-made lump of sand dumped together and topped up with some grass blades from the nearby area. If you look closely, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the ocean.Editing
Did some post processing to remove the noise and since I had 2 versions taken at different exposures, did very mild HDR processing. And slightly increased the saturation. In my camera bag
I usually carry around my camera, a 1.8mm prime lens, a cheap zoom lens and the standard lens. I also have an ND filter but I rarely use. I also have a small lens cleaning kit, a spare battery and a couple of 32GD SD Cards.Feedback
While the equipment is important, I believe what's even more important is the passion to want to capture something stunning and different. I think of the camera like a 'save' button for the mind's eye and you should always want to try something new. Nature has blessed us with so many photogenic spots across the world - what we need to channel is our ability to see it differently. Each of us can do it - it just takes practice. So it's always good to think out of the box when it comes to photography. I mean, if you'd told me that you could make me see a sand dune on the beach merely through a single picture - I may not have believed it. But that's what happened here. So keep trying.
