This photo was taken in the woods in North Carolina. I knew the green foliage in the background was going to make the owls eyes pop. That's why I shot it wide open.Time
I believe this was taken in the late afternoon.Lighting
Just natural lighting. I was in the woods, so just light shining through the trees.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark II with a Canon 70-200L Zoom Lens. Shot handheld.Inspiration
Like I said earlier, I knew given the green foliage behind the owl, I knew the eyes were going to pop and make the whole photo !Editing
This shot was pretty great SOOC I just tweaked a bit in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I usually have my tripod, Canon 5d Mark II, Canon 17-40L and Canon 70-200L F4. Also lately I have been using my Fuji Xpro1 and 35mm prime. I have more Cameras and lenses, but this is the stuff I have in my bag ready to go when I head out.Feedback
With a photo like this just pay attention to the backgrounds. You can shoot a photo a bird or animal. But you want the photo to be about the subject matter. So here I tried to isolate the owl. I could have pulled back and shot the owl in a tree which would have been a different look all together.
