Location
This was taken in Tettegouche State Park along the shore of Lake Superior.Time
We wandered down to the lake shore about 4:30pm; it was January and dusk was just starting.Lighting
All lighting is nature; a bit of brightness and contrast in post, but otherwise it was right at golden hour.Equipment
I believe this was with my Nikkn D800 with the 28-70 f2.8 lens. On a tripod for a longer exposure for a pillowy look to the water.Inspiration
There is just something about nature that I connect with. I al last didn't take this shot because it was just so cool to be on the shore of such an amazing lake right at sunset. The waves, the light. Just something you need to experience.Editing
This was converted to black and white with Nik Slver EFX. Some extra adjustments with contrast and brightness as well.In my camera bag
I tend to carry too much gear. I have. Nikon D800, D600 and F100 bodies with a Tokina 16-28 f2.8, a Nikon 28-70 f2.8 and several b+w ND filters.Feedback
Wait for the right time of day. Long exposures do work on big bodies of water like Lake Superior. Definitely get a tripod that is light and sturdy; the walk to the shore isn't far but the steps back up can take a toll of you have a lot of gear to carry. I love my ND filters so I can slow things down in the scene and capture what I want the camera to capture.
