I took this photo in San Bernardino National Forest on the way to Big Bear , CATime
I was driving to Big Bear to ski. We left home really early to skip the traffic, get good parking spots by the mountain and jump on the lift as soon as it opens. While we were driving up the mountain it started getting brighter. We stopped at one of the view points and what we saw took our breaths away. It was just before the sunrise. I rushed to the car to grab my camera and capture that amazing view.Lighting
Sun was slowly rising creating those beautiful colors. Fog that tucked the hills was creating 3D effect with fantastic layers. It was spontaneous shot.I wasn't planning it, or awaiting this moment to come it was how they call - being in the right place in the right timeEquipment
Canon 5D MArkII , lens 28-90mm and tripodInspiration
When I saw this view I just couldn't resist. I always have camera with me in my car wherever I go to make sure I don't miss anything. This sunrise was just unforgettable and never seen anything like that again. I took many other pictures during that sunrise and views where getting better and better with every minute turning colors from blue to yellows and the pinks. Mountains where tucked in the fog blanket slowly waking up from beautiful dream.Editing
I used tonal contrast to bring up some details and enhance the layers plus added some saturation. That time I didn't know as much about photoshop as I do now. I was very fascinated by HDR and playing with tonal contrast helped me create similar effect. In my camera bag
My backpack weights probably 40bs if not more. I try to take everything with me so I don't regret later that I am missing a piece of equipment that I actually need at the moment. What's in my backpack? Camera of course - Canon 5d MarkII, my favorite lens Canon 70-200 2.8 I really love this lens although it's big and heavy, it's my favorite right now. I also carry Canon 17-24mm 4.0, macro 100mm 2.8, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8 and 28-90mm plus memory cards, extra batteries, cleaning kit.Feedback
Landscape photographers should be patient, be up before sunrise and ready to shoot at sunset when the light is so beautiful. They need to be ready for weather changes . I didn't do any preparation to take this shot. I saw the view while driving the car, stopped and took this picture because I didn't want to miss it. I am self taught photographer and every picture is a new lesson for me. I learn something new every day.I often think to go that road again and wait to see if I can capture similar view again, but what are the chances and what I could do differently if I am lucky enough? Nonetheless it's one of my favorite pictures of all times. Hope you like it too :)
