I took this picture late at night with total solitude. It is a picture of myself while I used a shutter release. I was alone looking at how large the beach and ocean looked then to add in the moon made me realize how small or even insignificant we really may be in the grand scheme of the Universe.

Very creative. I love the composition, colors, contrasts and the size of the beach. Great idea, and yes, I believe every living thing is significant. - Heidi

Small in the grand scheme of the Universe but insignificant, never, for we are the creators of image.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was shot on the beach at Torrey Pines Regional Park.
Time
This photo was shot at night and that is the moonlight pushing through the clouds.
Lighting
There is no special lighting, it is only ambient moonlight that is in the shot.
Equipment
This was shot with the Sony A77 on a tripod using a long exposure of 30 seconds.
Inspiration
One night while I was out on the beach and there wasn't single other person as far as I could see. The tide was rolling out and it just looked so amazing vast. So I decided to set my timer and go stand out there with my arms spread as if I were measuring the beach in comparison to myself, but also while I was thinking how the beach is so miniscule compared to the universe.
Editing
The post processing was adding some saturation, adjusting the highlights and shadows, and probably added a bit of clarity and sharpening.
In my camera bag
I always carry my camera and a tripod no matter what time of day. I also have filters, and at least 3 lenses ranging from 11mm to 600mm. I also carry cleaning equipment, flashlights, batteries, SD cards, and an intervalometer.
Feedback
Well this was shot a little bit ago and as I try and advance my skills I always try and perfect what I am doing. If you are doing a long exposure like this one thing is for sure, stand still, ha. Other than that just watch for lens flare from the moon, and make sure the exposure is correct. Have fun and play around, because you never know what might come out of an image.
