Thank you so much to the ViewBug staff for the award and to all the people who have liked it, left comments and given recognitions!! As a relative newcomer to photography, who is very much still learning and experimenting, all the encouragement on this (and other photos) thrills me to no end!! : )

Location
I took this photo in my backyard in Biggar, SK, Canada. It is one stem of a basket full of fuchsia flowers.Time
This was taken mid-day, but it was in a shady area so the light wasn't too bright on the plant.Lighting
I love this flower, its shape, its vibrant colour. I was not satisfied with other attempts I had made to capture its beauty because I always had them in baskets and not always hung in places that provided a good composition or background. I decided to try with a black background to isolate just one stem. I have a board covered in black velvet and I had my husband hold it for me behind the one stem I wanted to feature in the photo. The sunlight was coming from the west at mid-day but the pot was hanging in a shady spot so there was a perfect amount of light so I really didn't have to do any special lighting.Equipment
I used a Canon T2i for this photo (and pretty much all my photos). I am a beginner and am still learning as I go through trial and error. My equipment is all very basic and I do what I can with what I have. My interest is in nature photography so I don't have a studio, just the great outdoors. When possible I get out to the countryside outside of Biggar to capture the fields and the sunsets but when I can't I focus on my backyard. My husband is an avid gardener so he provides most of the subjects for my photos.Inspiration
I love colour! I live in an area with long, cold winters so like to capture as much colour as I can the rest of the year. I have experimented with black and white and find that occasionally I have photos more suited to that but find myself always coming back to bright colours. I liked how this photo turned out so well that I have started to take more photos of flowers using the black background. None have turned out quite as well as this one did though. It is still my favourite. I don't pick the flowers, just position the board behind them so it is tricky to get it just right. The lighting must be right and there can't be wind.Editing
I cropped this a bit and increased that saturation a little bit, more to even out the black in the background but it also made the pink and purple pop.In my camera bag
When in my yard, I don't bother with a bag, just grab my camera. I have a few different lenses added to my collection now, telephoto and wide angle, and I take those along when I go out in the country. I learned the hard way to have a spare battery, fully charged, in my bag when heading out of town.Feedback
As I have said, I am a beginner and am still learning and experimenting. I am not sure I would be the best person to give advice. The only thing I would say, is try things. Experiment. Use what you have available to make your vision of what you want the photo to be happen. And don't give up. It can take many attempts to get the shot you want.
