Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at home but the cat decided where! I was lucky enough it took the pose just before this background witch color suits it's coat, not far from the window to have the good contrasted light

Time

at the evening when the sun goes down and fade, a day of winter when sunsets are not too warn in color

Lighting

natural light, always and ever, I am really not good enough at strobist to master artificial lighting and I am not at ease with different sources of lights. Here I really like the result of the light coming from the window witch makes the focus on just one eye

Equipment

I remember I was just testing the maximum opening at 1.8 of the little Canon 50mm on the 7D and had the good focus with a soft blur all around, no tripod or assistance of any sort, just seized the moment when I found the cat posing like this

Inspiration

the portrait, it's not common to find such a silent model! even if it's not very docile...

Editing

almost nothing, just treated a little brightness & add a very light more contrast to put the eye in the very dark, that did on the raw

In my camera bag

I travel light on every day: the 7D without the grip a flat lens 30mm. When I go out and I know what I will have to shoot I take more appropriate equipment, usually the 70-200 zoom is very useful in many situations, but heavy to carry, moreover if the day is planned to be long and I use the grip

Feedback

Don't! Cat photography is too chronophage... it's just good to train your technique
