Wonderful combination - a few solar panels would complete the concept.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Eastern Story County Iowa. There are numerous wind farms in Iowa, in fact the percentage of electricity in Iowa from wind is now 40%, so it isn’t hard to find these wind generators in the rural areas of the state.

Time

Obviously it was getting late in the evening when I took this shot, which is one of my favorite times to do photography, and the title “Sundown silhouette” reflects that.

Lighting

There were numerous wild fires burning in the western part of the country and the smoke particles had been in the air for several days, which affected the air quality and filtered the colors. What you see in the shot is basically what I saw through the viewfinder.

Equipment

The shot was taken with a Canon T3i and 18-55mm kit lens, handheld.

Inspiration

As I already stated, the air was filtering the colors this way and as I came upon the scene, this is basically what I saw with my eyes so I was pretty blown away. I took several shots but this seemed to be the best composition.

Editing

At the time I took this shot, I was pretty new to photography and did very little post processing on any of my shots. This particular one wouldn’t have required much anyway but I do recall doing some straightening and cropping.

In my camera bag

I have since upgraded from my original Canon T3i to a Canon 80D and always have my 24-105mm f4 L Canon lens, EF 100mm f2.8, and nifty fifty f1.8 plus a Canon EF 75-300 for when I need a bit of extra reach.

Feedback

Just get out there and look around. Some of my best images are what I found by accident. Images won’t come looking for you - you have to go find them.
