Nice capture, but you have some serious dust spots that need removing.

Unique and beautiful the blues and yellows of the sky and the detail captured of this graceful pelican soaring in flight!

Location
I live in Culebra, Puerto Rico, USA. It's a very small island approximately 7x3 miles, being in the caribbean it is very typical in that it has the blue waters and white sandy beaches. This photo was taken on one of the lesser known beaches of Culebra.Time
The photo titled "I'm not an Eagle, but i can Fly", was taken September 15th 2014 @ 4:39 PM.Lighting
My friend and business partner Laurie Knowlton just luvs to get her feet wet often goes into the water with her camera. However, I am not so "brave" so i stay on the beach lol. Plus i normally like to include foreground aspects like trees or grass in my photos to create a sense of depth or just natural framing. This particular photo doesnt have any of that as u can see. It was purposely shot against the sun, which sometimes works to produce some effects. I enjoy lense flare. This photo doesnt have that iether.Equipment
This was shot using an Tamron 70-300mm tele-macro lense on an Nikon D70s body.Inspiration
My friend Laurie had shot some amazing photos the previous day at about 2:30, with this in mind we headed to the same location, that didnt happen iether. Life had other plans and we arrived about 4 PM. But we did arrive and tried to make the best of it.Editing
I am not very good at post processing so i try to grab the best shot I can. As I was reviewing the photos from the day I was struck by this really dark pelican in this amazing in-flight pose. I tried the normal tricks I've picked up, lightening the shadows, adjusting the exposure. Nothing was working. So i created 2 more images, one way under exposed and the other kind of a mid range exposure and then realigned them using Lightroom and Photomatix, and then of course more work back in Lightroom. It's just that the pelican image seemed interesting to me and I found some things that started to work for the image and this started to emerge. In my camera bag
The D70s mounted with the Tamron 70-300mm is my workhorse. I do have 2 other lenses that i carry with me which is a Tamron 28-80mm and as well a Tokina 100mm AT-X Pro. I play with all of them at different times and in different senarios. But basically, the Tamron 28-80mm is for my group shots and the Tokina is for my macro work.Feedback
Often times u will not be able to show up at a particular date or time, or the weather will be not up to par. Often times u may end up with some photos that are "really bad". I would go ahead and shoot on those bad days and as well try and see what a photo might being trying to tell u about itself. You yourself may not be happy with the results, but throw the photo around at your freinds and u may run into people who see something in the photo u didnt see.
