Behind The Lens

Location

The image was taken in an old Theatre In littlehampton

Time

It was Mid afternoon on a cold bleak uninspiring day

Lighting

I placed the first speedlite behind the model to create a hot-spot hopefully creating a projector type effect and allowing me to use a rim lighting affect. I mounted the Speedlite on a stand with a Calumet remote trigger attached and used an orange gel to help soften the light a little. For the second Speedlite I used the same mounting but this time with a Nikon speedlite with a Model Type R Beauty Dish on 1/8 power attached just to right of the model allowing me to light the front from above to create a soft light effect.

Equipment

I used X1 Canon 600EX- RT speed light and a Nikon Speed Light. Canon 5DMKII Camera Body & Canon 70-200mm F2.8 L IS II Type R Beauty Dish and a lot of batteries!

Inspiration

I had seen whilst researching the shoot some photos that had been taking in old movie theatres with the projector in the background so i challenged my self to recreate that feel and look.

Editing

Yes i reduced a little noise from the image and cropped it a little, then decided the image looked better in Black & White. Boosted the blacks a little and the contrast.

In my camera bag

I am a wedding photographer by profession so carry a lot of unnecessary kit for that just in case moment but here is a quick summary. FujiX100S with the wide angel converter on. Two 5DMkII Bodies with Battery Grips 70-200mm Canon L F2.8 24-70mm Canon F2.8 50mm Canon F2 35mm Sigma F1.2 Two Canon 600EX-RT Speedlites X12 Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries AA HR6 -1900 mAh Various cleaning cloths and and lens brush Two Custom SLR cross body C loop straps Spare lens & body caps - as I'm always loosing them.

Feedback

Remember to charge you flash batteries and try not to overcomplicate the image and make it too technical. Research you shoot ideas and the models you want to work with, plan the day ahead so you maximise your time and achieve the results you wanted.
