It was during our honeymoon, in Canada. Actually, we were on the fantastic Icefield Parkway, towards Lake Luoise, British Columbia, and the lake under the mountains is Herbert Lake.
It was last 7th June. But we should not be there, becuase we started from Jasper and we were going to Kamloops. There is another road, much more short, but we found a mudslide on that one. 46 hours (!) were needed to get free the way. So we were oblize to come back to Lake Louise and, from there, go to Kamloops through Golden (maybe 11 hours of trip!).
Time
It was about half past 8 pm. The sunset. We were on the Street and we saw, on our right, the lake and the beautiful reflection of the mountains. We were in late, but we had to stop to take this and other similar pictures, because it was really a great show.
Lighting
The reflection was spectacular, even thank to the sunset light. So it was quiet easy to take this pictures. The was a magic athmosphere, really wonderful.
Equipment
I used a Canon Eos 5D Mark II. The lens was a Sigma 24-70 mm, and it was set at 30 mm. No flash and no tripod, because we were in hurry. Shutter speed at 1/30 sec., 640 ISO.
Inspiration
We were driving along the parkway. Suddenly, on the right, the infinite trees let us see this magnificent show. So, we had to take a break to take some pictures. We were not alone, there were another car with two persons taking pictures as well. What a reflection! What an incredible sunset!
Editing
Just a little post-processing, this jpg is not so different from the original raw shot.
In my camera bag
My complete bag contains my Eos 5D Mark II and four lenses: canon 50 mm f/1.8, Sigma 24-70 mm f/2.8, Canon 75-300 mm and Samyang 14 mm. I have a great tripod, Manfrotto 190. One polar filter.
Feedback
I think the best light for landscape photography is the dawn or the sunset. And the best sky, in that moments, is the one with clouds. Clear sky is good too, but the "tragic sky" is more scenic. The tripod is normally necessary, because it permit long exposure and quiet close diaphram, keeping down ISO.
