I took this photo of my husband while he played his guitar. Strumming the strings to create beautiful melodies, I enjoyed snapping this photo as we sat in our living room on a rainy afternoon. The strength of his fingers, beauty of the guitar, and positioning of his hand make this one of my favorite portrait shots. Even though his face is barely visible, his hand conveys a passion for music and a discipline of dedicated talent. Sometimes, a better self-portrait is made by concentrating on the action of the subject- in this photo, the hand and the perspective of the action are key. Photo of Joshua Hodge, taken by Regina Hodge, Lifelooklens, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at our home in Nashville, TN

Time

Evening

Lighting

The room was dimly lit, creating a soft glow that beckoned to be captured on camera

Equipment

Although I normally opt for my Nikon, I captured this photo with an iPhone. It's probably not what people want to hear, but it's the truth. Sometimes the best shots don't require a lot of equipment. I just try lots of different angles and use whatever lens I have at the time. This time, it paid off and I captured a memory I love!

Inspiration

I love when my husband plays his guitar. Music is big in Nashville and I like this shot because it captures a little bit of culture in an ordinary everyday moment.

Editing

I used a combination of editing apps to play with the lighting

In my camera bag

Nikon D3200

Feedback

Look at things differently- don't be afraid to try various angles that make you look like a weirdo when you're shooting. It pays off and creates shots that are truly unique!
