Location
I took this photo while on safari with my husband in Kruger National Park in South Africa. Our personal guide, Joy, was driving her large SUV. We spotted this magnificient animal, a kudu, along the side of the road. I was struck by this buck's wonderful markings and artistically-shaped horns. The backdrop seemed so perfect and helped bring out the kudu's coloration. We were looking down somewhat over this animal which is unusual for an animal of this size.Time
This photo was taken in the early morning. It was a little overcast. The kudu was on the move, so I just had to keep shooting to get the right shot.Lighting
It was a little overcast that morning.Equipment
The camera I used was a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with my zoom lens (EFS 55-250mm). I had purchased this same camera as a college graduation gift for my daughter about two years earlier. I was amazed at the photos that she was able to take even though she had no real training. I had only used point and shoot and bridge cameras until I bought this camera for myself because we were planning our trip to Africa. My daughter and I are quite happy with our cameras.Inspiration
This was such a large and beautiful animal. I had never seen one quite like it. He seemed almost regal. I felt very fortunate for this opportunity.Editing
I just lightened the photo a little. In my camera bag
I often carry a tiny point and shoot (Canon PowerShot) because it will fit in my purse. I have grandchildren so I never know if I'll have a great photo opportunity. When I want to be sure to get my best quality photos I take my Canon Rebel T3.Feedback
With animals or children, you just have to keep shooting and shooting. Don't wait for the perfect shot because living things can move so fast. Always have your camera at the ready. Take more pictures than you think you need. You can never have too many photos. But, you'll be disappointed if you have too few.
