Location
This photo was taken just 3 miles from our home in Midwest Illinois. I am a self taught photographer, and have always enjoyed being behind the camera. Our friends have always joked because I'm always the one with a camera in hand.Time
This photo was taken after doing a photo shoot of some friends in the local Forest Preserve. The shot was on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 5:59:24pm cst. I was just about to pull out of the park and had to pull off to take a few photos. I must say, this is one of my all-time favorite photos. I really love the colors from the sky that evening, they are truly brought to life through this photo.Lighting
I took several photos of this sunset, each photo portrays a variety of colors as the sun sets. Early photos were pinks and purples, then graduate to the robust reds and radiant oranges.Equipment
This photo was taken with my Canon 70D f4.5; exposure 1/200; ISO 160; 110mm focal length, no flash nor other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was simply on my way out of the park, looked to my right and could not pass up the inspiration of the sunset before my eyes. It was truly breathtaking.Editing
Absolutely no post-processing was used on this series of photos. I literally took the photo and downloaded immediately to my phone. I literally couldn't wait until I got home to post the photos, so I posted immediately to my Facebook page!In my camera bag
I always have backup batteries, SD card and tripod. My go-to lens is my Canon 18-135mm3.5-5.6 IS STM with UV filter. I also have Canon EF 85mm 1.8 and last Canon EF 70-300mm 4-5.6 IS USMFeedback
Sunsets anywhere are very short-lived. To capture the perfect sunset, take the time to locate the best location for full view. We live in the country. We aren't surrounded by trees or other things to obstruct our view. It's important to choose a location to capture the landscape at the best potential. Then... sit. and. wait. It's worth every minute! The serenity of the wait, and the end photographic result are like a fairytale. It's fulfilling and rewarding to capture time. Whether it's a landscape, candid shots, portraits, or any other shot, they freeze time. Time you will never get back. That's the fairytale. Capture yours.
