Behind The Lens

Location

"The photo was taken in Sydney Australia from the office building of Goodbeginnings Australia. I am an International award winner amateur photographer.

Time

I love this photo as it holds so much significance in my life. It's a visual representation of a dream, a goal that be came reality. Something tangible. I remember standing in the office it was around 10 am in the morning. I had no tripod so l used my elbows and rested them against the glass window for stability and took the one and only shot. It was a very special morning for me and my family there were a lot of people in the office so I needed to be quick taking the photograph. This was taken in October 2013 on the 10th floor at approximately 10 am.

Lighting

I wanted the image to be in black on white to help drawn the viewer into the image. The light of the mid morning helped tell the story. As l looked out of the window l stopped and paused for a while as l too wanted to get on my bike and ride on the home on the bridge making the story even more intriguing.

Equipment

This shot was taken with an iPhone 3

Inspiration

I love this photo as it has so much significance in my life. It's a visual representation of a dream, a goal that became a reality. Something tangible. It all started in 2012 I was approach by a very close friend who still to this day wants to remains anonymous saw my work and my daughters work and asked if were interested in holding an exhibition. In July 2013 my daughter Clare and I held an exhibition titled "Into the Light". It was held at the Gasworks Arts Park in South Melbourne. The exhibition went from the 2nd to the 14th with 16 images on display, 11 sold. My daughter was only 17 at the time and 3 of her images were sold. Being a father I was so proud. With all the profits we decided to give it all to charity. That charity being "Good Beginnings Australia" a non profit organisation programs build better outcomes for children and their families in vulnerable communities through effective early intervention and practical parenting programs, so every Australian child has the opportunity for a good beginning in life.My wife and I were there to present a cheque for $1700.00 it was a very emotional day the money helped 60 children.

Editing

I used an App "Snapseed" changed to black and white using a grain filter.

In my camera bag

I have a variety of equipment a Canon eos 1100D, Canon eos 550, 18mm - 55mm, 50mm, 70mm - 200mm and a 600 ex-rt speed light and Tripod.

Feedback

Try and take photographs in the morning to capture the sunrise and during the morning what is called the golden hour and before 12 midday or a couple of hours before sunset. Dull days are good for taking flowers and foliage outside. Just practice and have fun chasing the light. Its the amount of light that decides whether it ends up been a good or bad photograph.
