... and in fact there was no artillery left, yet they stood their ground to the best of their abilities.

despite being in color, this comes across quite well as a period piece; or at the very least a time capsule sort of image. there is nothing obvious- other than the color and stop action of the image itself- to betray the time period it depicts. great composition.
