Location
The photo was taken is a forest nearby during autumn. Everything was covered with a thick carpet of leafs. Gently putting leafs aside I found this mushroom on a hillside between the trees.Time
In the late afternoon there was no much light in the forest.Lighting
As there was not much natural light available, I used a torchlight to lighten the mushroom from below to let it look as they were giving light as lanterns.Equipment
My old Canon EOS 30D was still in use. Lens was a Canon EF 100mm F/2.8 USM. I used a tripod low by the ground. Torchlight was a small Led-light, no brand-name.Inspiration

I used PS to darken the surrounding and to brighten the mushrooms. I remember that I corrected the colour also.In my camera bag
That time I walked around with one camera and one lens. Nowadays 1 till 3 cameras: Canon EOS 5D Mk III, Canon EOS 7D Mk II, Sony Rx 100 I and 1 till 4 lenses: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L iS USM, Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM, Canon MP-E 65mm F/2.8, M42 or other lenses, flashlight, macro-flashlight, led-light, reflector, tripod, filters, ... all depending the situation.Feedback
Most important have your camera with you and at least an additional light source, even your phone can give you some light. Take your time, and look to you subject from different angles, try it without and with light from several positions. Good luck!
