Behind The Lens

Location
I captured this photo at Coringa forest in India, which is near my home town. The forest is famous for the mangrove tree's. I captured this during my initial days of photography.
Time
Captured this around 9am. The location is around 70km away from my home and not well known for tourism. I woke up at 5am and drove to the place, and reached there around 7am. But the entry for mangrove forest was open only after 10am. So I had breakfast and roaming around the rice fields nearby and trying to capture kingfishers. Then i noticed lots of butterflies in the dry grass...and spent lot of time capturing them, till i got this beautiful picture. I was lying flat of the gound and captured it from a low angle.
Lighting
Actually the light was bit harsh...but due lot of tall grass behind my subject I got good depth of field and also it created beautiful bokeh and some backlight. I captured it with sun towards the right side of the subject.
Equipment
This was captured handheld on a Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 70-300mm AFS VR lens. No flash used.
Inspiration
I casually started capturing butterflies while I was waiting for opening time of mangrove forest. I was able to see the dreamy world of butterflies in their natural habitat through my lens and i just kept capturing them till got the right frame which i envisioned. I waited a long time patiently to let them come closer to me and the effort was definitely fruitful.
Editing
I captured it using custom while balance and enhanced the yellow tones in Photoshop to give it a more dreamy look. I also softened the background a bit using Nik Color Fx Pro plugin in photoshop and increased a bit of sharpness on butterfly.
In my camera bag
Currently I use a Nikon D750 and my favourite lens is Nikkor 16-35 f4 AFS VR. It gives me the flexibility to shoot landscapes as well as street scenes. If I have to take one lens then i would pick this lens. And i use a Nikkor 85mm f1.8 AFD lens for portraits. And Sigma 35mm f1.4 lens for low light situations and also for environmental portraits as well as street scenes. And i use Nikkon 70-300 for telephoto shots as its light weight and gives a good focal range when compared to the heave 70-200 lens.
Feedback
You can find this kind of scenes in any park or fields. Early morning and during sunrise will be a good time to shoot this kind of pictures as you will get perfect golden light. Also the morning dew on the grass or flowers will add more magic to the photographs. A telephoto lens or a macro lens with higher focal length will be a good choice.
