Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on my breakfast bar at the end of my kitchen bench. A friend and I put up some fabric for a backdrop and just started playing with toys.

Time

Was taken a bit after lunch on a cold winters day. It was too cold outside to do anything much. The kids were playing video games, the "adults" were playing with Lego.

Lighting

Lit from the front with a speedlight at low power to mimic a cave.

Equipment

Simple setup with a tripod and the flash on an off-camera cable.

Inspiration

Just big boys playing with toys and matches.

Editing

Very little post-processing in LR 3. The flame is real, not Photoshopped.. We had several goes at getting this right so, very happy with the finished shot.

In my camera bag

I carry way too much stuff in my bag but, only so I am prepared for anything.

Feedback

Playing with light angles and power levels makes all the difference. We took about 10 test shots before trying to light the match.
