Behind The Lens

Location

This is the 16th Street mosaic stairs in San Francisco.

Time

I think it was about 1:00

Lighting

It was a sunny day.

Equipment

Nikon D3500. LensDX 18-55mm, no tri pod, no flash.

Inspiration

I am an artist, painter, jeweler, photographer,I love glass and mosaics I had heard about these stairs and had been wanting to see them for at least a year . I love the colors ,the imagery and that people that contributed time and funding are represented,I love the succulent plantings on either side of the stairs as well. The water swirls, the sun and the moon, small bats, fish and interesting ceramic animals are part of the design. I had to shoot this from different angles to see what I liked, detailed parts and the entire stair case.

Editing

I may have cropped it a little and developed the color a little in Lightroom develop.

In my camera bag

Besides my15-55mm lens I bring a 55-200mm lense and a lense cleaning cloth.

Feedback

Try different views, close and far, try shooting with people on and off the stairs, get a bit of distance by standing in the street to capture the whole length of the stairs, try shooting this as the sun angle hits the top where the moon and stars are made with pieces of mirror to create reflections. There are great plants along the sides to add a different look, maybe bounce light off other reflective surfaces that are glazed ceramics. I find that I often take multiple shots to see what I like best on my computer.
