Very nice, looks like the stairs in the St. Augustine, Florida Lighthouse. I just posted a similar image in the Spiral Contest. Think I like your POV better.

Very good eye! This is those stairs in the St. Augustine, Florida Lighthouse. :) We had the joy of being in that area for several weeks, so took advantage of checking out some of the beautiful and rich history there.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while we visited the St Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum in St Augustine, Florida. I love black and white and depth, so this really spoke to me as I looked up.

Time

I am not an early riser, so I am usually taking photos in the later afternoon early evening. This image was taken in the late afternoon in the warmth of Fall afternoon.

Lighting

Lighting is so important for the story you want to tell with your image. I wanted this one to remain as natural as possible and was so very fortunate that the light coming in and being reflected was still very white and not offering much of the golden hue that came not too long after this shot was taken.

Equipment

This shot was taken in 2014 and have changed several cameras since then, but for this shot, this was taken with a Canon T3i and with Canon 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I am always looking for attention grabbing shots, and this one just jumped right out. One advice I always give is to never leave your camera at home and force yourself to look at things around you with a closer eye, there's a worthy photo near you, take it.

Editing

There really wasn't much post-processing I had to do on this image. Othering than cropping it a little, this is a 'what you see is what you get' image.

In my camera bag

I have been traveling fulltime and snapping shots all along the way for 8 years. I am a hobby photographer and do it for enjoyment and to track our journey. My camera bag has seen a lot of changes over the years. In my bag currently is my Canon 77D, 3 spare batteries and 3 extra SD Cards. I always have the Tamron 18-400mm lens and my favorite lens is Tamron 150-600mm. Keeping a few lens cloths because having small dust particles on your lens can show up later in the post-processing and be frustrating. I also keep a monopod and a small (sits low to the floor) tri-pod with me. I also want to mention that I don't use a bag anymore, instead I use a vest that have enough pockets and easy access when needing something right away before the opportunity is missed.

Feedback

When taking a snapshot, anyone can seem to do those. But when taking a photograph, there is a lot more that goes into the behind the shot. Pay attention to your lighting. Look for the best position and angle to convey the message/mood. And, framing is critical. Yes, you can take a wide shot and zoom in post-processing, but for full impact, do most of the framing while you are taking the photo. You will have more impact.
