I took this picture on my native island in Grado, Italy. I was taking photos at sunset and I felt a change in the atmosphere, a storm was coming. This photographic experience teaches me and comforts me how it is important to always observe and be alert, to seize the right moment and capture it.Time
It was October, I spent a whole day looking for the right light, in vain. But at sunset my patience paid off, bringing with it a storm.Lighting
I put the emphasis on the composition and focused on framing the image. As the light changed I modified the exposure to maintain proper light on the rocks in the foreground, that would drive the eye to the lightning and accentuate the difference between the calm sea and the roughness and strength of the stones and the lightning.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 450D. Lens EF 16/35 F.2.8. Lee Filter 0,9 soft Tripod. shot at 16mm Posa Bulb with remote control at 30 seconds. F16Inspiration
I am especially attracted by storms so to be in that situation and take this picture has been electrifying and a true, profound joy.Editing
The original raw image was post processed in Lightroom. I resized, increased contrast and brightness on the overall image and used a paint tool to densify the drama in the clouds. In my camera bag
Lately I purchased a new professional camera body, a Canon 5D Mark III, a tele lens EF 70-200 F4.L DS, Lens EF 16/35 F.2.8.L A few Lee filters, a tripod, remote controls, batteries, 1 flash.Feedback
I would suggest to use the right equipment, a lot of patience and determination, and keep training the eyes.
