Behind The Lens

Location

We are very fortunate to live just a couple miles from a beautiful Forest Preserve, Forest Glen. There are many quiet roads and walkways that allow the opportunity to wildlife and untouched grounds.

Time

With seasons change in the Midwest, sunset happens so very quickly. We headed out late afternoon, hoping to capture beautiful views, wildlife movement and perfect lighting opportunities. We were very blessed that Mother Nature was looking out for us this day.

Lighting

I opted for an area in the park that was dense with trees, so not to struggle with "peeking sunlight" and shadows.

Equipment

This image was taken with my always reliable Canon 70D and Canon 28-135 lens. The lighting was perfect, no need to diffuse, reflect, nor was a flash required.

Inspiration

I wanted something very natural for my senior. She's a pretty simple, down to earth tom-boy, if you will. She had no problem lying right in the leaves and grass.

Editing

This photo has no post processing applied. I do my best to photograph without the need of post processing enhancements. Yes, many photos look better with some tweaking and editing. However, I exercise every ability I have to shoot each photo the very best I can.

In my camera bag

I carry my Canon 70D, Canon 85MM 1.4 prime lens, Canon 28-135mm 3.5-5.6, and Canon 70-300mm. On most occasions, I will bring along my Canon 70-200mm 2.8. It's my favorite lens, however is not always the best for every circumstance.

Feedback

If there is a specific scene you'd like to set or capture, monitor the surroundings for a few days. Watch the weather and how the temps change, the air flow - ie: breeze, fog, sunlight and shade. Depending on the season and location, your "golden hour" may be a different time of day than you originally thought. Have Fun and express yourself! Explore! Experiment and Share!! Life is too short to just wish you would have. ?
