Excellent job, especially on the eyes!

Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken at a trail in Portland, OR. There was a person at the entrance holding this beautiful bird. I have never seen an owl before and being this close to him was amazing. Then I noticed I could see my reflection on his eyes and knew I had to take a picture if I was allowed to do so and well, as you can see, I was.

Time

I remember just trying to find a nice place for my daughter and I to go on a nice hike!!! We drove to many different places, but none of them got our attention until we found this gorgeous place with people greeting us at the entrance, allowing everyone to spend a little time with the owl. She looked happy to have so many people around him!

Lighting

I was so amazed at the sun light kind of reflecting from his entire body....It was like the sun made him glow and if you get really close to his eyes, you can see it is actually a very sunny, gorgeous day! Loved every minute of it. Such a magical moment, specially when looking straight into his eyes.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D90, no tripod, no special lens, just my excitement and my passion for seeing beauty all around us.

Inspiration

His eyes were the ones that got my attention, they were so expressive and big. I knew I had to capture that look for a lasting moment and for everyone to enjoy and feel what I felt. Like I mention before, a very magical moment.

Editing

To be honest with you, the time of the day and the natural light was so perfect I didn’t need to do anything with this image. Let’s put it this way.... Nature wanted me to capture this moment for everyone to see and gave me everything I needed to do so!

In my camera bag

I have always carried my Nikon D90, my tripod and a couple of small lenses for close ups and micro pictures. I do this as a hobby so I feel like when I am enjoying myself and the moment, not much is needed to get an incredible image. My goal is to one day have all of the equipment required to take all kinds of images anywhere, anytime!! One day though, one day :)

Feedback

I always love to tell people to remember to follow their passion, because when you do, you will see perfect moments everywhere, and with few tools, you can freeze that beautiful moment forever!!!
