Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Xingping village, which is a small fishing village in Yangshuo, China. It's an old beautiful village surrounded by Karst mountains.

Time

This is one of my favorite because there is a an interesting story behind this shot. So i went to see this famous point called ¥20 point (landscape depicted on ¥20 currency). I wanted to capture some sunset shots behind the Karst mountains at that point. I was well prepared with all my gear and i reached there little early (around 5:00-5:30 pm) so i can set up everything. As i was waiting for the sunset luckily i saw this fisherman, without wasting time i started clicking pictures. I got so excited that i totally forgot about the sunset but at the end i got lots of good fisherman pictures with beautiful sunset.

Lighting

The light was bit flat and there was not enough light. The key factor here to change your camera setting continuously with the changing light. As i've said earlier that i was waiting for the sunset and as you know at that time light changes very fast.

Equipment

I created this photo with sony A77 mark II and Tokina 11-16/2.8 mm lens. I had my tripod ready too but for this shot i did not use it. I am very comfortable with my camera and most of the times i don't use tripod unless it totally necessary.

Inspiration

As i've said earlier i wanted to capture that ¥20 point during sunset. I planned everything accordingly as i knew that this is the only chance i have. There was no second visit ( i was leaving from Yangshuo the very next day). I was well prepared and i think it's all get paid off. I've seen some nice karst mountain pictures by other photographers and i wanted to click one myself but i guess i got lucky and got this interesting shot.

Editing

I used Adobe Lightroom to process this picture. I always shoot in RAW so i can get the full control on the processing. On this particular photo i did not do much processing as i wanted to do justice to the natural scenery that i witnessed. I just did some color and contrast adjustment.

In my camera bag

Sony A77 mark II Tokina 11-16/2.8 mm lens Tamron 90 mm prime lens Sigma 70-300 mm telephoto lens. A remote timer and some filters.

Feedback

The only advice i have is that always be prepared. You should know your camera very well because when shooting at this hour light changes very fast and you need to change your camera settings accordingly. Always arrive at the location little early because you never know what you can find.
