This photo was taken in Mareeba, far north of Queensland in Australia. Otherwise known as the tablelands. On a farm paddock.Time
The time of day was just after 7am.Lighting
Because we started out early in the morning, well before sunrise, we watched the balloons inflate and then take off. Followed them to where they landed. This was another lift off from a farm as the sun was rising. I just happened to be in the right spot for the balloon to intercept.Equipment
I own a canon 600d. Lens, I believe at the time, was my all-around 18-250mm. No tripod was used or flash. Just hand held.Inspiration
At the time of my hot air balloon photos, I worked for a tourism company and had the opportunity to drive a group of tourists to do this adventure. Obviously, I took my camera because I had never seen balloons up close.Editing
I always touch up my photos no matter how minute or intense. From a slight crop or straighten as much as changing the tone to reflect the mood. This one I bumped up the contrast, and played around with highlights and darks.In my camera bag
I don't carry a lot with me. Most times it depends on the event or location to what I'll carry with me. If it's a beautiful sunny day, I'll grab just my camera with an all-around lens and take a macro with.Feedback
Patience.... especially with animals and slow moving objects. The balloon was slowly rising and drifting off to the left, so I waited for it to just block the sun slightly. In another shot I did, a balloon is crossing in front of a country back road. I waited for it to centre over the road. I advise if you have hot air balloons in your area, try it. If you're not afraid of heights then go for the flight. (I'm too scared to.) Depending on your area, foggy mornings are the best!
