Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio in Kragujevac, old capital city of Serbia. This set was crucial for me to decide to work more on cinematic sets and organise my own costume & prop shop, so its game changer :)

Time

This photo is my little excursion in the waters of makeup :). My make up artist was late, and it was evening ,i think it was winter time, so it was cold and i didnt have time and patience to wait for my associate so i decided to try to do this make up myself ... and i did it :), Somehow i menaged to bring out all of my artistic luck and make this happen ... and offcourse my makeup artist arrived and finished this mask and give her this great look :)

Lighting

I wanted to make this photo as colorfull as it can be becouse of the great result we got in the make up process, so i did some experimenting with 3 flash lights and color gels , so i can get that recognizable " Festival of the dead" look ...

Equipment

I use Canon 5D Mk II with Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro lens. Using 3 flash heads from chinese JingBao company from 800 wats and color gels. Becouse i was shooting in HSS mode i didnt use a tripod

Inspiration

I am a documentary photographer, and although I have my own studio a dont really like so much to work with flash lights , but i have a lot of clients for which i am shooting fashion sets, therefore ,as you can imagine, i work in studio a lot. Becouse of that , i needed something to do for myself, for my soul in the studio and I always loved scene art and cinematic photography, so this was my first trip in that field of photography. This mask was not expensive, but i expected that it will be interesting to work with and i was right :). This set give me will and strong desire to make my own costumes and shoot better and better sets with more complicated details and bigger stories. So now I am happy when i am shooting at my little "cinema " studio sets :D

Editing

Yes , offcourse. I did post - processing on this image but nothing much. I am trying allways to get as much as I can from my camera and leave only finishing touch for Photoshop. That was exactly the case with this image. Raw file was great and only thing i needed to do is to make finishing touches on the skin and colors. I take care of some inperefections on model skin and give fresh and shiny look to beautiful colors. Only thing i wanted to make with the face is to get that pale look, kind of " doll skin" feel and the colors will shine. I hope that I have succeeded

In my camera bag

I am huge Prime lens lover, and my best friend is Sigma 50 mm 1.4 ART. I dont go anywhere without that lens and offcourse , my lord of the rings, Canon 135mm 2.0. Besides these two , in my bag you can find Sigma 20mm 1.4 ART, Canon 100mm 2.8, Canon 24-105mm and Sigma 12-24mm II

Feedback

My advice is the same thing i am repeating to myself every day... and that is " Just try to have fun" :). Always have fun, try to experiment with everything you never know what will come out of it. If you didnt do something until now , today is the great time to do it, even to learn how to do make up :D
