Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at the zoo in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.Time
It was around 4 in the afternoon in late September.Lighting
The light was what the day gave. It was that wonderful, late-afternoon light, just before the golden hour.Equipment
Canon T3i camera, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens (my favorite), and an old rickety tripod held together with zip ties.Inspiration
Actually, Viewbug's Elephant Contest was the reason for the trip to the zoo. I love nature and wildlife photography, but wouldn't have been at the zoo shooting that particular day. I look at the contests as inspiration for shooting new things in new ways. That said, my daughter and I spent a couple of hours watching elephants. The baby kept going up to the adults and just touching them with it's trunk as if seeking reassurance. I also love sentiment and emotion.Editing
Yes. I made slight adjustments to the levels in the iphoto editor. Also, I cropped the picture to focus on the elephant's trunks. In my camera bag
Canon T2i, Canon T3i, 70-200mm f2.8 lens, 24-70mm f2.8 lens, Canon 430 EXII flashFeedback
Patience, patience, and more patience. My daughter actually went over and took a nap on a bench while I watched and photographed elephants.
