Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in Washington Square in Manhattan near a bench with a huge tree (for a city) and a small army of squirrels claiming peanuts.
Time
This is my favorite street photograph. I was walking through Washington Square in the evening, right after work got out. Rush hour was in full swing and the sun was turning golden. Then I cam across this little girl whistling and making kissing sounds to the fat squirrels in the garden. It was probably the peanuts that got their attention but the cute sounds helped. They would cautiously sprint toward her. Bounding then stopping, still as a stone, then rushing forward again until they leapt up her leg, grabbed their prize and bolted for their holdfasts.
Lighting
Sunset light was pouring all over the street. What's not to love about that?
Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5DII and 24-70 Tamron lens, hand held at 70mm.
Inspiration
I was just out looking for city life with zero expectations, open eyes, and smidgen of hope.
Editing
Not a lot of post processing was done here. I enhanced a little of the glow from the light behind my subject. Sharpened the girl and the squirrel. That's about all.
In my camera bag
I am a strong believer in the notion that creativity strives in limitations. That, and I ball on a budget. Nearly all my photographs are taken with the Canon 5DII and the 24-70 lens only. I also have a manfrotto tripod that has been to hell and back, I think its scars give it character. That is all.
Feedback
You just have to go outside a thousand times until the elements align and give you a gem like this one.
