Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my backyard. The flowers are Mexican Bird of Paradise and the butterflies and other insects are drawn to them.

Time

This was at 12:34 p.m. On October 14, 2012. The butterflies are very active in October and November.

Lighting

This is natural light and the Sun was shining brightly.

Equipment

I shot this with a Canon Powershot S3 IS. My settings were f5.6, 1/640, 62mm. I did not use a tripod.

Inspiration

I have an affinity for butterflies and try to capture them whenever I can. I have several different butterflies that come to my backyard.

Editing

This is straight out of the camera.

In my camera bag

At the time that I took this picture I had very little in my bag - my camera, batteries, cleaning cloth. Now I have my Powershot, a Canon 60D, a Tamron 24-70 Lens, Canon 70-200 Lens, 2X Extender, Macro, extra batteries for both cameras, shutter release and manuals for both cameras.

Feedback

Butterflies move very fast. I set my shutter speed high to stop movement and my f stop higher for a crisper picture. I adjust my ISO to compensate.
