One of my very close buddies was gifted this rott pup by his boss after he lost his previous rott named Augustus to a animal hater. He named this pup Augustus Jr. to preserve a good memory and wanted me to shoot his portfolio. This was shot at his place in Trivandrum, located in south India.Time
This image was shot in the evening post Junior's siesta. He was as active as I wanted him to be!Lighting
It was early evening so the sun was still bright and was casting harsh shadows and highlights. I asked my friend to hold up a thin translucent white bed-sheet so as to use it as a diffusing panel. Worked wonders!Equipment
I just used my trusted D700 with a Sigma 85 1.4Inspiration
When shooting animals and babies, we can't really predict much but just hope... and my hope was answered in this case! I hoped the pup to be like energizer bunny after a nice li'l siesta and that's what he was! Frankly speaking, this just happened to be one of the many shots I took of Junior but the only one to really portray the cunning li'l devil in him!Editing
My goto software for editing any image is photoshop. A slight touch-up including the levels and curves is a norm for me when working on digital images. Besides that, I just sharpened the image a tad bit using the High-Pass filter. In my camera bag
I currently have a D800 & D750 as workhorses while I also use Nikon P7100 when I want to travel extremely light. In lenses, I have a Sigma 35 f/1.4 Art, Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG HSM, Nikon 50 f/1.8D, Nikon 70-300 VR, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 and Sigma 105 f/2.8 Macro. I have the SB-600, SB-700 & the Godox WITSTRO AD-360 along with a few pairs of Yongnuo wireless triggers.Feedback
Animals and babies are unpredictable. You've got to spend some time to really understand their behaviour and study their mood to be able to capture their true personality. Don't be frustrated if you don't get what you're looking for... be at it and trust me, you'll eventually get something better than what you expected! All the Best!
