This is a shot taken in the grounds of St Michaels Church Rupe, high up on Brent Tor, Dartmoor Devon UK. I call this photo Time and Space..........Because it takes time to capture space like this.Time
It was Oct 27, 2011, 3:03:51 PM when I first started getting interested in travel photography and set out to get some landscape shots. This was taken when I spotted a church on the hill on my way to Dartmoor and had to take a detour to see it.Lighting
It was a wet cloudy day but still pretty clear you could see the church for miles but when we got up there the fog came floating in. I took a number of shots of angles and different trees. The fog was thick but it was a great background to make sure the subject I was shooting stood out. The other difficulty shooting in fog is, sometimes it can be overexposed or grainy, so make sure you keep the levels down and compensate for the exposure, this also can be adjusted in your software.Equipment
Nothing fancy - Make EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY Model KODAK EASYSHARE M320 Digital Camera It is the first camera I was given to do journalism with for our local community paper which started the bug for photography. It was handheld as I didn't have a tripod. So composition and the right light was everything with this camera.Inspiration
I loved how the trees were growing close to the rock edge and the winds were quite strong up there that is why they had bent this made for an interesting photo and the fog hid most of the background fields which gave it more contrast for a good tree shot.Editing
I do not own PS or LR yet! I try not to edit my shots too much so I am not sure I will actually buy them as I tend to try to take a photo that need as little editing as possible. If I do edit, it would be either from colour to black and white, or increase or decrease the contrast and colour. I had taken different shots on this tree and a fellow photography friend suggested a better edit and cropped it and up the shadows. We learn a lot from others. In my camera bag
I do not use a compact digital anymore I since brought a bridge Nixon Coolpix L120 with x21 optical zoom so I could shoot the moon. ...Fantastic camera and reasonably priced too, I take it with me on travel as its quick and easy to use. And recently brought a Canon EOS D100 which I do take with me but need to learn to use the settings better but I find it good for still shots on a tripod.Feedback
In England especially down near the coasts, the weather can change quite rapidly to capture a shot like this you need to be in the right conditions where fog is created. "Wikipedia says" Fog forms when the difference between air temperature and dew point is generally less than 2.5 °C or 4 °F. Fog begins to form when water vapor condenses into tiny liquid water droplets suspended in the air. Some shots you need wait for this condition and achieved with time and patience. Why it is called In Time And Space.
