<i&bt;The unicorn lived in a lilac wood, and she lived all alone.<-i&bt;
So begins the incredible work that is The Last Unicorn, by Peter S. Beagle. The Last Unicorn is a well I frequently draw inspiration from, and it never gets old to me. I am amazed by new insights into the story (and myself) every time I read the book or watch the film made of it.
This self portrait blurs the line between the world of The Last Unicorn and my DreamWorld. Because the story has been so life-changing for me, I wanted to include Unicorn's world in some way in DreamWorld. So I set out to build my own lilac wood.
<b&bt;I wrote a big old blog post about how I created the photo, with lots of behind the scenes images, as well as more detailed shots.<-b&bt; Please head over there for more about it!
I had originally planned for this photo to be released to time with Peter's birthday on April 20th, and also the launch of the<b&bt; Last Unicorn cross-country movie screening tour!!<-b&bt; It's going to be crazy; the gorgeously restored film playing on a HUGE movie screen, Peter himself there, a Q&A session with him, and all the Unicorn merchandise you can imagine! So while computer problems kept me from posting this when I had wanted, I still want to wish Peter a very happy birthday, and let you guys all know about the screening! Go to their site and see if they're coming near you;if not, write them and ask them to! There are also a lot of ways you can help the tour out. It's going to be an unforgettable experience :)
