Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken inside my tiny bedroom in my hometown where I used to live, since this was taken back when I just started experimenting with photography.

Time

Either morning or noon, when the light was just right.

Lighting

I simply adore natural light and I like to include it in as many photos as I can. So this one was taken directly under a roof window, fully open, when the Sun wasn't shining through, so I could achieve that soft, beautiful light.

Equipment

Nikon D90, an oldie but goldie. Like I said, this was taken back when I just started doing photography, so the equipment was quite modest. But it just proves that an idea and how you execute the idea is more important than equipment.

Inspiration

I wanted to capture a type of makeup that's not regular, nor everyday. Something more on the goth side, but make it quite elegant, edgy yet soft.

Editing

Cleared up skin just a bit, and enhanced the makeup, especially on the lips. Eyes too, of course, because I wanted it to have a bit more contrast.

In my camera bag

Now, I carry my Nikon D750, Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G

Feedback

Try to keep it simple, even if at first it doesn't seem possible with all the black makeup, for example. It's still possible to make it look simple and elegant. Try not to over postprocess it in photoshop, because too much can ruin the photo. And light! Light is the key. Studio light is always great too, but daylight, natural light is always available to everyone, everywhere.
