Very impressive, Paul! The fact that you included the firefighter truly give credence to the struggle at hand! Jerry

Thank you for your comments, I did point out the face to a friend but they couldn't see it. I have not mentioned it to anyone else so am happy that you can see it.

Behind The Lens

Location

I live in Holyhead which is just off Anglesey in North Wales and my house looks over this field called 'Cae Bog'. It was from the back room in my house I took this image.

Time

It was in around mid-evening in April

Lighting

I wanted the silhouette shot and the flames gave me the light I needed for this.

Equipment

The camera was a Canon EOS 600D with my Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 II attached. It was set up on my manfrotto 055 Tripod.

Inspiration

I had not long watched a programme on the National Geographic channel and it showed a scientist atop a volcano, the brightness of the lava gave a stunning silhouette against the scientist and I thought I would love to take a similar image. Knowing the chances of me visiting a erupting volcano are slim, I seen this fire and then the fireman walking past and thought this could be the chance for me to get anything similar.

Editing

It has been cropped and I also darkend the foreground just a touch more.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 6D, Canon ef 100m f2.8L Macro IS USM, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens. ND filter, cable release, iPad, dust blower, manfrotto 055 tripod and fruit

Feedback

I am still learning photography so all I can offer is just wait for the moment, I didn't want the fireman just stood there I wanted him doing something that would make the silhouette look better. I would also say look on viewbug at other photos and speak to the photographer as they offer the best advice. Lastly I would say just get out with the camera the more you are out the more you learn.
