Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Holmes Lake in Lincoln Nebraska for a 6 month photo shoot with my cousins daughter.

Time

We did this session in morning around 9am in August.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect with overcast skies, it was like I had a huge softbox illuminating everything just right.

Equipment

This was shot with a canon 5d mark III and a canon 70-200 f4/l @200 shutter speed 1/400 iso100 @f4.

Inspiration

I had made this newborn nest for other photo shoots. However I thought it would be such a fun outdoor shoot to have her sitting in it with a little owl hat. I loved her sweet serious round face and the softness of her baby skin.

Editing

I did some minor skin softening and sharpening of the eyes. Add a little vignette, all done in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III. My go to lens for outdoors is my canon 70-200 f4/l lens. For indoors I use a 24-70 f2.8l. I also love my 85mm.

Feedback

Look for the light, avoid harsh shadows and try to stick with a darker background to help your subject pop more. I try to shoot as wide open as I can with keeping the eyes in focus.
