Location
I took this photo in Commerce City just north of Denver, CO.Time
I want to say it was around 5 - 5:30amLighting
It was before sunrise so there was just the slightest hint of a glow coming from the East. The soft haze in the cold air diffused the light from the refinery turning it into a subtle glow rather than hard lightsEquipment
Canon 5D mark3, Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC USD set at f/10, ISO 125 for 15 seconds on a tripodInspiration
I had just moved down to Denver from Silverthorne where I used to just wonder around the mountains taking photos of nature. Being in the city was quite a change, so I started heading out before sunrise to explore and see what I could find. For some reason the complete opposite of what I was used to drew me in and I found myself returning to Commerce City and finding all kinds of gems like this one.Editing
I converted to black and white using SilverFX Pro.In my camera bag

Get up EARLY, bundle up, get some coffee and head out with plenty of time to wonder around, climb on stuff, lay down or do whatever to find the perspective you want to capture. I think the pre sunrise cold winter air somehow adds a calm to the air that every now and then you can capture through your lens.
