Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taking in Troy, NY USA during its annual Victorian Stroll.

Time

Image was taking on 12/21/2012 at 2:02pm EST.

Lighting

Lighting was all natural light, no flash.

Equipment

Nikon D700 using a NIkkor 70-200mm F2.8. Shot handheld @ 200mm using f2.8 for 1/50sec with ISO 800.

Inspiration

I was doing some event street photography when I stumbled upon this young lad. The fact that his cap was the same as mine is what caught my eye. He looked so comfy all wrapped up in his stroller on what was a cold December afternoon that I had to just take a shot of him.

Editing

I did nothing particularly special, just my usual adjustments. No filters. I did some post-cropping of the image, adjusted the exposure, shadows and highlights, added a bit of contrast and clarity, some sharpening and converted it to black and white.

In my camera bag

My go to bag currently contains my Nikon Z6, Nikkor 24-70 F2.8, Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 and an SB-900. On occasion I will toss in my Sigma 10-20 or my Nikkor 105m 2.8 (if I plan on doing any macro shots).

Feedback

Street photography is all about observing. It's never something you can plan usually. You can plan a location, but never what you will see. Many times I will just find a spot that will give me a vantage point with a good backdrop and just wait..sometime 5 mins, other times as much as an hour. Patience is the key.
