We came this big pride of lions with many kids and they were feasting on a fresh kill of zebra. Whenever there is a kill hyenas are not far behind to scavenge the kill. If in numbers hyenas are known to drive lions away from their kill and claim it instead. This young one could easily be killed by the hyena but its natural instinct takes over and it walked past our 4X4 and started snarling at the hyena. All of a sudden we realized that our vehicle was in between the mother and the cub, blind siding her from the young brave hearts attempt to scare the hyena away. We quickly moved the 4X4 away and the lion (mother) immediately intervened and ended his foolhardy bravery.
