Location
This photo was taken outside at a local mausoleum. We had planned on leaving the building in the shot but I felt like it needed a background replacement since we didn't get out to do the set until super late in the day.Time
We started getting ready for the shoot around noon, there was lots of prosthetic work involved in the makeup processes so it took quite a while to get it all put together. We left my studio location to head to the Abbey at around midnight I believe.Lighting
I shot this set with one off camera flash and a beauty dish. The beauty dish was made out of 2 salad dishes and a mirror!Equipment
I used a camera. lol I don't remember exactly. I've been through about 5 cameras since I shot this set. I never use anything expensive though. Probably a Canon Rebel and kit lens.Inspiration
I wanted to do a mix of the Bride of Frankenstein and Corpse Bride. We brought in a Special FX artist to make these super sick scars and stitches on her face and neck. It was worth the time it took to do this right.Editing
Again this was shot on location, so taking out the background was a little tricky. I knew I still wanted the cemetery scene as the background so I bought stock and used it. I added fog in layers, first over the background and then in front of the model to create depth in the image. In my camera bag
I have 2 Canon Rebels, a T3 with a water housing for underwater photography, and a T5 for my daily use. I don't use expensive heavy cameras because my hands are super small and because I shoot all day I can't hardly move my hands by evening if I have a heavy camera. I shoot a lot with my 50mm prime lens. Most of my fashion images are shot with it.Feedback
It's important when composting an image to make sure the background and the foreground and the subject are lit, color matched, and properly sized. Adding in elements to blend a composite image, like fog, extra lighting, shadowing, reflection, helps blend it and make it look real.
