Behind The Lens

The photo was taken at the Holme Pierrepont National Water Sports Centre Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK
It was around 11:00 am
No artificial lighting was used, the weather was overcast and cloudy.
The equipment used to take the shots was: Canon 5D MK1 with a Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG Lens. It was taken without the use of a Tripod, just my Joby Pro Strap which I love and no Flash.
We have visited this place a few times as it is a great place for a walk with our Dog. We did notice that Sports England are often there training in the white waters and the Lake. On this occasion we came a this sports woman pulling off some amazing stunts in her Kayak, I always ask if it is ok to take photos are mostly they are fine with it. I was amazed how she was handling the Kayak in the very fast moving water, and I decided to start shooting. I put the camera in AV mode, and took many many pictures of her pulling off these stunts. When I got home and downloaded them onto my Laptop, I was very happy with the Photos they had all turned out fantastic and it was just which one should I use for the competition.
I use Adobe Lightroom to process all my shots, it is fantastic editing software. I decided to subscribe to Adobes' Creative Cloud, for that I get Photoshop CC and Lightroom. I find it a very inexpensive way to be able to get awesome software and then get all the updates too within that cost. The only post processing that I did to all the shots taken on that day was: Cropping and Sharpening the colours captured did not need any altering.
In my camera bag
My bag contents normally consists of Lowe Pro Flipside 400AW, Canon 5D MK 1, Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG, Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 II APO EX DG, Yongnuo 580 MK2 Flash, Canon 18-55 MK2 IS F3.5-5.6. Several CF Memory Cards, I also take a Monopod with the 3 Legged based and Ball Head with a quick release plate. Having a disability and not being able to work, photography is my release in life. Photography is also my passion in life and what keeps me going even when times are really tough. I have to work on a budget when purchasing my equipment as money is very tight. Most of my equipment is second mostly bought from ebay, all I would say about buying second hand equipment is ask the seller as many questions as possible about the item before buying.
I don't think I am the right person to give any advice, I am not a pro but a very enthusiastic photographer. All I can say is be prepared for anything and take as many shots as possible and at as many different angles as possible, oh and be polite and ask for permission to take the shots.
