Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Abbi Falls located in Kodagu, Karnataka state in India. I love nature photography to the peaks. All I want is to go out there, experience the place, make some good pictures of it.

Time

This is one of the images for which I had to face many problems. The battery was low, no tripod was there with me and the water was rinsing my camera. I walked about 4 Kms to reach the spot and was pretty afternoon around 11:40-12:00. I took this on 22nd of August, this year. Thanks to my camera for remembering the date 22/08/2014.

Lighting

Light has also been a problem for this image.. It was bloody afternoon and the sun was crazy. To its addition, this white angel was glittering its colour. I trying to shoot it from many angles to avoid any flares of sun as I forgot to take my lens hood nor a filter. I felt like my camera had an ISO lower than 100. But this shot was worth my struggles, I believe.

Equipment

I used pretty much very low equipment for this shot. It was shot on Canon EOS 550D, with a prime lens of 50mm 1.8D at an f-stop of 5 and the exposure was 1/400 of a second.

Inspiration

All I would say is, God has inspired me to take this photo. I was always crazy about capturing what I see and what I feel which others fail to see in my way. Probably that was the first impulse. And I'm very thankful to the almighty that he created such a great world with too many beauties in it, to photograph. The moment I reached this place, I was standing there for watching the beauty of the dancing water. Both me and my camera were bathing in the water being sprinkled by the falls.. The way the water was touching me, made me feel like it was asking me to photography it show its beauty to the world.

Editing

This image has not been touched and is being shown as is.. I feel that post processing always creates an artificiality in the images and especially when we are shooting the nature. It must be natural. We need not make it look beautiful, it already is. All we have to do is to find the right spot, photograph it the right way.

In my camera bag

Most of the time my bag carries my Nikon D5200 with a kit lens 18-55mm VR II 3.5-5.6, NIKKOR 55-300 mm f/4.5-5.6G and sometimes I also take my friend's camera, Canon EOS 550D with a kit lens of 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 and a prime lens of 50mm 1.8D which he doesn't use much. I carry an Nikon ML-L3 remote, HOYA Ho-4810 circular polarizer, Omax reversal ring for Nikon mount. I also have a Vanguard Espod CX which I don't carry to every place; instead I place my cam somewhere on the rocks or tables and mostly I shoot it by hand.

Feedback

Well, photography is never a field or subject that one can get into by somebody's teaching. It should come from within. With passion, equipment never matters in photography. My advice is to start travelling and cover more places where one can photography and play with the light as much as he/she can. Do take a lot of pictures of the same subject from many other angles. Every place and every object has a beauty; Hence, try to show it to others in a way most of the people can't. Build up an ease in your work and create your own style of making the captures a visual revel.
