Location
In the West Village, in New York City!Time
About 10, 15 minutes after sunset.Lighting
I did not have a lot of hope that evening, but all of a sudden a beautiful pink/red reflection broke through the clouds....and created a very dramatic sky, which worked well with my long exposure!Equipment
I used my D800 with the 14-24mm at 17mm 25 sec exposure | f/22 | iso 100 Of course the camera is on my Really Right Stuff tripod and BH55 RRS Tripod HeadInspiration
I lived in NYC for 4 and half years, i always loved the west side and its sunset lights. The pattern of the sticks in the foreground and the buildings behind is a perfect combination for a dramatic long exposure.Editing
I always treat the RAW file in Lightroom and I do a pretty basic color management in Photoshop. I use the luminosity masks. In my camera bag
Beside my Nikon D800, my favorite lens is the Nikkor 24-70 2.8, which is really sharp and very versatile. I always carry my Lee Filters kit, which is made of the Big Stopper 3.0ND, the Little Stopper 1.8ND, a 0.9 ND and a 0.9 ND Grad Soft. I also carry a TriggerTrap cable that I connect to my iPhone and I use as my shutter release remote.Feedback
My advice is to search and plan! Sometimes long exposure photography happens randomly but most of the time it happens after good research and better planning!
