Location
I took this photo at Riverpark Square in Spokane, Washington.Time
It was early afternoon on a very, very hot day in the city.Lighting
Bright sunny day, and I moved around in the area until I had the children backlit somewhat.Equipment
A Sony Nex-6 with 55-210mm lens, handheld.Inspiration
There was considerable activity in the park because it was such a hot day. The fountain is right in the middle of that area, and there were about 15 kids playing around. There were enough children that I could sit on a bench and just snap photos without attracting any attention. I didEditing
I did very little post-processing - just some tweaking of the contrast and sharpness. In my camera bag
I carry a Sony Nex-6 and a Sony a6000. The lenses I use are a 15-50mm, a 550210mm, a 14mm and a fish-eye lens. I carry several extra memory cards and batteries along with some cleaning materials. I rarely use a tripod. I do have a bean bag that I somethings through over the windowsill or fence post when i need extra stability.Feedback
For a photo like this you have to not hesitate or be self-conscious because it's at the park or because the subject is children. I was about 50 feet from the fountain just sitting on a bench. Actually I was quite surprised at how dramatic the photos were. I didn't feel at the time that I was getting anything special. You just sometimes can't tell!
